In an increasingly complex and dynamic world of Geo-Politics & Geo-Economics, safeguarding India’s national interests involves multifaceted challenges and strategic considerations in the context of the nation’s defence & security. Ambassador Sujan Chinoy, India’s leading defence & security expert will through his talk give an overview and provide a comprehensive understanding of this scenario. This talk will help us understand India’s position in the global geopolitical landscape, including regional power dynamics, strategic partnerships, emerging threats and internal and external security challenges, such as terrorism, insurgency, cyber threats, and border tensions. He will also touch upon emerging defence technology and innovation, assessing military capabilities and fostering defence indigenisation in the Indian context.

The talk will be followed by a moderated Q&A with the audience.

Sujan R Chinoy Director General, MP-IDSA, New Delhi Amb.

Sujan R Chinoy is the Director General of the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA), New Delhi since 2019. A career diplomat from 1981-2018, he was Ambassador to Japan and Mexico and the Consul General of India in Shanghai and Sydney. A specialist on China, East Asia and politico-security issues, he headed the Experts Group of Diplomatic and Military Officials dealing with confidence-building measures (CBMs) with China on the boundary dispute from 1996-2000. At the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) from 2008-2012, he handled external and internal security policy, including in the extended neighbourhood. During his public service of over four decades, he has dealt with political, security, defence, technology as well as trade and economic issues. His diverse Foreign Service career included postings at the UN and in Saudi Arabia. He was the Chair of the Think20 engagement group for India’s G20 Presidency and a Member of the DRDO Review Committee of the Government of India. He is also a Member of the Selection Committee for India’s highest civilian awards (Padma Awards). He contributes to newspapers and journals, besides lecturing on diverse subjects. He is the author of World Upside Down: India Recalibrates Its Geopolitics published in July 2023 by Harper Collins. Vikram Limsay Business Strategist, Columnist & Entrepreneur Vikram is the Founder & Managing Partner of Helicon Consulting. A Tata Administrative Service (TAS) alumnus, he has been associated with the industry for over three decades. An entrepreneur and a columnist for leading media he was also the Consulting Editor of Dalal Street Journal and has been on academic governing bodies of educational institutions like Symbiosis University and Jagdish Seth Institute of Management.
