About the Book:
Compassion is a gripping novel set in 1800s colonial New South Wales, following the outlaw Nell James. Inspired by Julie Janson’s own ancestor, the book brings to life Indigenous women’s stories and the fight for justice, adventure, and survival.
About the speakers:
Julie Janson is an acclaimed Darug author known for works that centre First Nations histories and voices.
Tony Hughes-d’Aeth is Chair of Australian Literature at UWA and Director of the Westerly Centre. His research explores literature, landscape, and history.
