Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, Bangalore in collaboration with the Seoul Division of the International Dance Council (CID-UNESCO) is organizing an 8-week intensive online course focusing on the project building and digital performance training of the cultural professionals of India. The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism along with the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange are offering this course as part of their Cultural Partnership Initiative 2021 and Attakkalari is thrilled and honoured to be their India partner for performing arts this year. This is indeed a huge recognition for the incredible track record and accomplishments Attakkalari has in working with digital technology in performance, particularly during the pandemic times.

Professional dance artists, filmmakers, arts managers and other artists in the age range of 25-45 years, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in their field and a keen interest in “Screendance” or “Performing Arts for the Camera” can apply for this course. The course will address both theory and practice, and the participants are expected to work as a group to create a Screendance project as the final outcome of the course. The participants will be taken through the history of Screendance in the world, encouraged to discover the same locally, offered interaction with senior Screendance artists, guided through different genres of Screendance works, the skills, resources and techniques required for each genre, and finally be mentored through the process of creating their own piece of performance as a collective of artists.

India has a rich history of screen based dance, particularly in many of our popular films of Hindi as well as other regional languages. There is a big affinity in Indian culture for expressions of dance, particularly on screen. This course will treat this art form as a special category with its own aesthetic choices, techniques, skills and histories. For the aspiring artists who wish to excel in this domain, this is a great opportunity.

Applicants who can be present in Bangalore for the duration of the course will be given preference for 5 out of the 10 available seats, and they’ll have access to the Attakkalari studios and infrastructure to participate, engage & experiment with the course.
