Have you been interested in contemporary art from India, but didn't know where to begin? Join this
workshop organised by the MAP Academy to explore the rich histories of Indian art from the late 19th
century to the present day.
This workshop is designed to equip learners with essential skills in analysing Indian art from the 19th
century to the present. It will look at socio-political changes that have contributed to the evolving art
scene as well as our understanding of visual cultures today. Through discussions, presentations,
quizzes and hands-on experimentation with several art forms, learners will gain an overview of
Modern Indian art, and also acquire the tools needed to engage thoughtfully with other new and
unfamiliar works.
The workshop will build on core concepts covered in the MAP Academy’s free online course ‘Modern
and Contemporary Indian Art’. We encourage participants to complete the course prior to the
workshop, as it provides essential insights into key artists, movements, and socio-political contexts
that will serve as a guide for discussions. Click here to enrol.
