Understand how translation works. How does one become a translator? What are some of the challenges of translation? Purnima Tammireddy will cover all these topics and more in this session.
PURNIMA TAMMIREDDY is a writer, translator and publisher, working in both Telugu and English. She was a writer-in-residence at the 2022 Sangam House International Writer Residency. She has translated into Telugu Manto’s Siya Hashiye and Amrita Pritam’s Pinjar. Her translation into English of Telangana Arms Movement leader Mallu Swarajyam’s memoir is forthcoming. Her English translation of Volga’s latest novel, On the Banks of the Pampa, will be published by Harper Collins in July 2025. She is also the author of the Telugu short-story collection, Emotional Pregnancy.
In 2022, Purnima founded Elami Publications, an independent Telugu publishing house, and co-founded pustakam.net, a website for book reviews, in 2009. A techie by profession, she currently lives in Bengaluru.
