60 mins | Hindi, Urdu | For ages 12+ Bombay Theatre Group presents Saadat Hasan Manto’s ‘Jaam-e-Shahadat’ by Can & Able Productions. It explores the corruption of human values and morals during the turbulent time of India’s partition when millions of people migrated to Pakistan, not knowing what to expect in this new land. Some profited from the distress while many suffered the consequences of this tragedy. Manto is known for his hard, unsparing telling of the situation as he saw without trying to soften his characters. This story follows a small-time corrupt businessman from Gujarat as he migrates to Pakistan with the hope to make big. Manto looks at the prevailing situation with bitterness, laced with darkly satirical underlying humour.
