"JAYA'', the theatre production, is a rock opera in English that presents the major events of the epic 'Mahabharata' in an exciting & visually stunning manner with world class lighting, costumes, sound & sets ,extraordinary live singing, a specially composed 2 hour original music score, wonderful choreographed Kaliripattu sections together with Kathak. It presents these key events in a dramatic montage style through the eyes of Yudhishthira, the main protagonist and the eldest Pandava brother. It examines and contrasts his 'experiments with truth' with two other divergent beliefs and view points - those of Duryodhana and his faith in victory and power at any cost, and that of Karna's fatalism and belief in an unchangeable destiny. A play that combines rock music with mantras and Krishna’s flute together with Kaliri drums, it’s a modern day retelling of one of our greatest tales, at the heart of which is Krishna’s powerful sermon on the battlefield from the Gita, with a final ending that is as moving as it is inspiring . Performed by a highly talented cast of professional singers and dancers ‘ JAYA’ is a universally fascinating tale that is both contemporary and eternal. It is the Mahabharata for the 21st Century that illuminates why it is still so important and relevant to us.
