Event Description

This recital presents J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, performed by pianist Eun Seong Hong. The programme invites the audience into an evening of focused listening and reflection, exploring how a single musical idea can unfold into a rich and expansive journey. Presented in India by Eun Seong Hong for the first time, this performance offers a space where structure, balance, and contemplation resonate naturally across cultures.

The Goldberg Variations form a small universe built with astonishing perfection: thirty variations framed by an opening and closing aria, all sustained by a single, unchanging bass line. Across its thirty-two movements, the work unfolds like a hidden architecture in time—at once rigorous and deeply expressive. For the performer, this music is not only a technical or structural challenge, but an inward journey, where each note embodies order, reflection, and a sense of profound balance.

Eun Seong Hong

Korean pianist Eun Seong Hong began piano at the age of five and, by seven, won her first competition. Soon after, she received prizes at the Catholic Competition and the Baejae University Competition, early achievements that marked the start of a wide-ranging career.

She studied at Mokwon University (Piano Performance, South Korea), the Conservatory of Vienna, the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (Master’s degree), and the University of Southern California (Graduate Certificate). Her artistic formation was guided by Jung Hee Song, Tamara Atschba, Dr. Frank Scott, Dr. Tim Bach, and Kevin Fitz-Gerald.

Hong is recognized as a multifaceted pianist: as a soloist, she has performed in Austria, Korea, and Chile, with her recitals frequently broadcast on Radio Beethoven (Chile); as a chamber musician and collaborative pianist, she has worked with distinguished singers and instrumentalists; and in opera, she has collaborated with the Chile National Opera and Orchestra, including projects at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago.

She has also held professional positions and collaborations with leading Chilean institutions, including the Universidad Alberto Hurtado and the Universidad de Chile, further strengthening her artistic and academic presence in the country.

In addition to her performance work, Hong has contributed to recording projects featuring Chilean contemporary composers, expanding her artistic scope into new repertoire and supporting the visibility of Chilean music internationally. Her work also extends to cinema, where she participated in Pablo Larraín’s acclaimed film El Conde. She has given masterclasses in Chile and South Korea and appeared in interviews with Korean media, further consolidating her international presence. In 2023, she received the Concert of the Year Prize from the Chilean Circle of Art Critics.

Since 2022, Hong has served as Professor of Piano at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where she unites her experience as soloist, chamber artist, opera coach, and educator, shaping new generations of pianists with the same breadth and depth that define her own career.

Currently, she is serving as a Visiting Professor at Christ University in Bangalore (January – February 2026), where she is presenting Masterclasses and lecture-recital of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations.
