From music to monuments, creation has returned to love again and again. In the Carnatic tradition, Kalyani Raga is the raga of romance. Its janya ragas, born of the same lineage, carry that essence while blossoming into their own melodies.
Centuries earlier, in Maharaja Serfoji’s court, the Nirupana system was born. Eighteen compositions formed a single repertoire within the same raga. Iti Kalyani honours this tradition through Bharatanatyam. Four pieces, each representing one of the Kalyani ragas: Mecha Kalyani, Hamir Kalyani, Mohana Kalyani and Yaman Kalyani.
Conceptualised, choreographed and performed by Sahitya Ramkumar, this performance bridges centuries of expression. The universal tale of falling and revelling in love.
