Event Description

In visual artist Nancy Hammermeister's art, natural phenomena such as clouds, trees and volcanoes become symbols of human moods, emotional worlds and questions of existence. She came to Bangalore  for her bangaloREsidency@1Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery with the plan to look for situations in the city where hands and their actions in everyday life find expression in ritual, religious, spiritual or repetitive behaviours.

After exploring the city and its cultural scene, Nancy decided to work with dreams. Kanasu means dream in Kannada. Dreams are the connection to our subconscious and talking about dreams connects people with each other. Nancy encountered people in her daily routine and recorded their dreams. In doing so, she gave the dreams space and at the same time explored the areas where dreams take
place, where they meet reality and what happens next.

Nancy extracts symbols from dreams and from everyday life. Symbols are languages without words - memories and thoughts seep through fabrics.

Kanasu: A conversation between dreams, fabrics and symbols by Nancy Hammermeister will be presented at her host: 1Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery.

Entry free. All are welcome!

Nancy Hammermeister's residency is in partnership with the City of Dresden.
