Event Description

Ranga Shankara is all set to reopen its auditorium on Fri, 8 Jan 2021. After nearly 9 months of no plays, Spandana's highly-acclaimed 'Karimayi' will be the first play to be staged in the Ranga Shankara auditorium.

'Karimayi' is one of Kannada theatre's longest-running plays, directed by veteran artiste B Jayashree. The play is a musical, with music scored by Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambara. The live original music and singing are led by B Jayashree. The play will begin at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available at the Ranga Shankara Box Office and www.bookmyshow.in. The theatre will reopen with all the post-COVID protocols in place and 50% capacity.

There will also be a session in the Ranga Shankara foyer before the play starts. Popular Kannada troupe 'Kalagangotri' will present theatre songs from 5:30 to 6:45 PM.

The opening by Karimayee will be followed by two shows of Pampa Bharatha by Samudaya (Sat, 9 Jan) and Akshayambara by Dramanon (Sun, 10 Jan).

Ranga Shankara will go back to its Show a Day on week days and two shows a day on weekends. Most of the Bangalore troupes have booked the theatre to come back with their shows in January and February. Ranga Shankara has partnered with a couple of young Bangalore troupes to produce new plays that will premiere in January, as will Sanket's new play by S Surendranath. Naseerudding Shah's Motley will come back with Ismat Apa ke Naam and Sanket's Iti Ninna Amrita with Arundhati Nag and Srinivasa Prabhu will also play in January.

"Ranga Shankara reopens on Fri, 8 Jan 2021! This is so so huge a moment in our lives! Theatre Alive after 9 months. Come back, people! Come and fill our Karmabhoomi, our holy space, our work space, our healing space with your presence and we will shower you with our Art! ", said Arundhati Nag.
