Tens of thousands of Indian farmers begin their sit-in protest in November 2020 on the borders of Delhi against three contentious farm laws brought by the Union government. They demand total repeal of the laws as they perceive them to be leaning towards corporatization of agriculture. The ruling dispensation tries many coercive measures to dismantle the agitation. However, the farmers continue their peaceful resistance with great patience and determination for over a year. The movement thereafter commands global solidarity.
Finally, the government withdraws the laws, grudgingly accepting the demands of the agitating farmers.
A battle is won, it seems. But the bigger war of achieving socioeconomic and environmental sustainability has to be won.
