#KitchenStories

Oriya kitchen is on 19th and 20th of September.

Raahi is the caravan of gastronomic beauty and inspiration. It is a humble amalgamation of regional ingredients, culinary aesthetics and bold innovation. Raahi is the story of our journey of continuous hunger, expeditions of new cuisines and ingredients which reflects in our constantly evolving menu.

The quarantine might have locked us up in our houses, but it has unlocked our kitchens. For recipes, we looked to our mothers and grandmothers and passionately revived these recipes that have been passed down for generations. Everyday new food heroes have come to light, celebrating their local, authentic flavours. In our quest for experimentation and evolution, we’ve partnered with Conosh to get these #KitchenStories to you. Every weekend, we will give one of the burgeoning stars a platform to open up their kitchens to the world. Join us in unravelling this box full of stories that will not just tempt your palate, but warm your hearts!

About Priyanka Jagaty who is organising the Oriya kitchen this weekend.

“As an army brat, my family and I traversed many places across the country. While I imbibed much from my multi-culture experiences that makes me who I am today, but I constantly felt that there was a lack of knowledge among people about my culture, my food, my roots!! My mom loved hosting people over, she used to often cook Odia delicacies, but more often than not the guests mistook her food for a similar cuisine. Even in college, Odia cuisine never made it to lengthy discussions on food either. People could talk lengths about more popular Punjabi or Rajasthani cuisines, but barely anything on Odia! The blurry identity of the food I grew up with, something that I am so fond of, laid down the foundation of a strong urge to represent my cuisine, and to do it well.

With these thoughts I planned my first ever Odia pop-up for my friends and colleagues at work. It wasn’t just the food that made everyone sit back in awe but also the knowledge and history behind it. Since my first pop-up gave me huge encouragement, I went ahead to collaborate with Conosh to take it to as many people possible. The success was evident when a pure veg menu curated around Puri’s temple food got sold out as soon as it was announced!

I am Priyanka Jagaty, an entrepreneur and a food enthusiast on a mission to educate people around me about the beautiful, ancient, and diverse culture of Odisha through its food!"
