Event Description

Ummathat is a traditional folk dance from Kodagu, performed by Kodava women. The women dance in circles while holding and playing brass cymbals, singing, and wearing the traditional Kodava saree. They wear red brocade sarees, traditional Kodava jewellry, and red vermilion on their foreheads. The dance begins with a prayer to the goddess Cauvery and singing about the Kodagu region. It is performed to propitiate the goddess Cauvery, who is considered the mother goddess for the Kodavas.

The two-day festival ‘Krishna to Kaveri’ opens with a graceful performance by the celebrated dance team of the Kodava Samaja Bengaluru.
