Kohinoor is not a linear play, operating on four planes, it gives the story of 4 women from different demographics. One thing that remains constant amidst their dissimilarities is that they are all confined in various ways and of course, financially. How they keep trying to change their lives, yet are not able to, is made clearly visible. The play ends, not on a cynical note but by invoking a change of mindset among men, which can prompt stepping back and seeing the bigger picture. The Hindi play justifies a careful sprinkling of regional language to give veracity to the locales and bring out the message further accentuated. Troupe: ForumThree About the Troupe: Forum Three is a theatre collective based in Bangalore since its inception. A passion-driven, not-for-profit group where theatre has been experimented with since more than four decades. Into the highly westernized theatre scenario of Bangalore of the 1970`s were launched Forum Three`s translations of vernacular plays into English to reach out to a larger cosmopolitan audience. Today there are offerings in Hindi as well, to cater to the pan-Indian theatre lovers. In its journey the group has staged not just Indian plays by masters like Arun Mukherjee, Badal Sircar, Girish Karnad and Manoj Mitra, but has also presented works of fine western playwrights like Samuel Beckett, Bertolt Brecht and Edward Albee. The talent that was groomed at Forum Three went on to produce amazing performers in Indian Theatre, Cinema and Music - Prakash Raj, Sihikahi Chandru, Srijit Mukherjee, Gulshan Devaiah, Anupom Roy, to name a few. With plays written by the group`s members a new creative run is envisaged which could crest in contributing to theatrescape at large.
