Event Description

Krishnaa – A Calling to Lord Krishna

Krishnaa is a vibrant production that brings together a collection of traditional pieces centered around Lord Krishna, as seen through the eyes of various devotees—Andal, Radha, Yashoda, and a Gopika.

The performance opens with the Andal Kautvam and verses from the Nachiyar Tirumozhi, where Andal envisions Krishna as her divine bridegroom. This is followed by a Varnam in Raga Charukesi, composed by Lalgudi Jayaraman, which portrays the journey of a Gopika, whose yearning for Krishna leads her toward self-realization.

Next is “Madumeikkum Kanne”, a Tamil folk song presenting a tender conversation between Yashoda and the young Krishna. As Krishna insists on going out to tend the cows, Yashoda lovingly tries to persuade him that he is still too young.

Following this is “Lalita Lavanga”, an Ashtapadi in which the sakhi urges Radha to set aside her anger and reunite with Krishna.

The production culminates in the energetic Kalinga Nartana Tillana by Oothukadu Venkata Kavi, and concludes with a soulful verse on surrender.
