A sharing circle for ecological loss and climate anxiety allows us to share our pain, fear, anger, grief and all other emotions about these events. The process of naming an emotion we are feeling and having others witness that with empathy and acknowledgment allows for an energetic release. A healthy emotional body and heart require us to befriend our difficult emotions, even what we have numbed ourselves to, or find difficult to feel, in our bodies and ourselves. Sharing circles is a way to do this in the community. There is something especially powerful about mourning in a community rather than by ourselves. We get a sense that there is a community that feels similar distress about the times we are living in and that we are not alone in struggling with these feelings. We each are trying to do what we can to reduce the ways we may be contributing to climate change and move towards bringing change to our communities.
