Event Description

Kulavathi a servant maid in-kind Dharmashekara’s palace is banished from the kingdom when she reveals that she is carrying the king’s child. The king’s four notorious and evil sons born to the queen incite the wrath of Shivajangama, a staunch devotee of lord shiva, as a result of which the king dome reels under severe drought. To redeem the kingdom from this situation the Shivajangama demands the magic pearl that brings rain to be brought to him within six months. The king’s four evil sons go in search of the pearls. Lakshapathi reveals his identity. The king challenges Lakshapathi to bring the pearls if he is really what he claims to be. Lakshapathi in quest of the magic pearl meets a sage who directs him to a Devine maiden who is in possession of the precious magic pearl. His brothers who have squandered away the entire wealth trap Lakshapathi raja on his return journey kill him and decamp with a magic pearl. The Devine maiden comes in search of Lakshapathi only to see his corpse. She invokes the goddess Shambhavi who bring him back to life. In the meantime, the four evil sons have returned to the palace and are boosting about, hoe they acquired the magic pearl. Lakshapathi arrives and narrates the injustice meted out to him by the brothers. The king orders four to be punished and Lakshapathi to be crowned, but Lakshapathi virtuous as he is, pardens his brothers and ascends the throne after marrying the Devine maiden. Folk form - kinnari Jogeraata is one of the oldest folk forms Of rural north Karnataka. Attempts are being made to revive this rich and versatile folk form. Unlike other folk forms, jogeraata has the unique distinction of being able to imbibe elements of another folk form smoothly without damaging them.
