Event Description

“Lamkoi Wari Liba” means a travelling storyteller — one who moves with songs and stories, carrying the spirit of connection from place to place. This tour is inspired by the Peña Aseiba —the traditional Pena balladeers of Manipur, who once wandered from village to village, sharing stories, songs and ancient wisdom, like wandering minstrels of the land.

In the same spirit, this journey is about travel and encounter — meeting people across different cultures and landscapes, sharing stories, songs, and silences, and listening to each other with open hearts. It’s a simple way to connect —through music, conversation, and presence. To learn from one another, to celebrate our differences, and to find, in the end, what makes us all human.

About Chaoba Thiyam

Chaoba Thiyam is a folk singer-songwriter, sound artist, filmmaker and an independent researcher from Manipur. He is the creative director of an artspace called SIYOM which symbolizes the womb , an inspirational space, a confluence of creative forces encompassing the whole range of art forms, from the traditional to the unconventional, from the structured to the experimental and heads a folk music ensemble under the same name.

His original works incorporate elements from the oral tradition concerning the nature of storytelling inherent in the folk tunes from the soil of Manipur. He contemporizes the tunes of old and re-introduces them to the hearts and consciousness of the younger generation in Manipur and the rest of the world as well. His music indulges listeners to reflect on the nature of truth and reality encompassing environmental consciousness, and the appreciation of folk wisdom and its austere beauty with the intent to bring about a cultural and artistic liberation.

He is dedicated to humanitarian and social work pertaining to various issues existing in the society. Through his music and art-based activities, he connects with the people at disability homes, de-addiction centres, orphan and old-age homes, and relief camps in an effort to make the healing process and transformative journey possible.
