Event Description

The performance follows the journey/story of Lavani through the years. Lavani being part of Maharashtra's folk tradition has evolved over time with social, political and cultural developments as well as changing audience preferences. It is a form that is both recognised and celebrated in the rural and urban spaces of Maharashtra. The artists through the performance explore complex questions of love, gender, desire and feminism.

Along with live performances of Lavani songs, the performers will share oral histories, archival material, interviews and other audio visual material to create a contemporary performance that brings story-telling, performance and documentary theatre together.
