Event Description

Film Screening – 4 pm to 5 pm Lost Migrations is a three-part animated anthology which explores the memory, loss and trauma of the Partition of British India – through the voices of the colonised. Each 6-10 minute episode focuses on a community that has been excluded from South Asian historiography: women, the stateless and the diaspora. The anthology is a unique cross-border co-production between the UK, India and Pakistan. This anthology of films includes: – Seabirds (7 mins) directed by Sawera Jahan (Puffball Studios). – Rest In Paper (8 mins) directed by Haseeb ur Rehman (Puffball Studios). – Sultana’s Dream (12 mins) directed by Spitting Image. All films have English dialogue as well as closed captions in English. They were completed in 2022. Rest In Paper and Seabirds were both co-produced by Project Dastaan and Puffball Studios. Sultana’s Dream was co-produced by Spitting Image and Project Dastaan. Post the screening there will be a Q&A session. Workshop – 5:30 pm to 7 pm The screenings will be followed by a two-part workshop session focusing on animation and production. Each session will be 40 minutes in duration. Splitting Image will conduct a session on the process of making an animated short film. The second part will focus on how to approach financing and grant writing for animation and will be held by Project Dastaan. Spitting Image will be represented by Sandhya Visvanathan, Aditya Bharadwaj, Shoumik Biswas and Aniruddh Menon. They’re four friends-turned-collaborators who co-produced, directed and animated Sultana’s Dream. Project Dastaan will be represented by Sparsh Ahuja. Presented by Project Dastaan, Spitting Image and Puffball Studios.
