Magic Bow presents Vidwan Lalgudi Jayaraman’s dance compositions as the composer himself had visualised them.
Each musical piece reclaims the visual scenario as imagined by the composer – written/ designed by Gowri Ramnarayan and choreographed by Sheejith Krishna. For example, the jatiswaram narrates the story of a couple setting out to sea, facing a storm, getting shipwrecked on an unknown island, and being dramatically rescued. Similar episodes are showcased in the varnam and tillana.
The performance also offers a specially created segment depicting the composer’s childhood experiences in his native village – the source of his inspiration. This ends in the temple with a devadasi performing a kriti composed by saint Tyagaraja when he visited the village as the guest of his disciple Jayaraman’s great grandfather.
