Event Description

They dazzled on stage in Ranga Shankara's 2019 Annual Theatre Festival, and now, they're going to dazzle on screen, too - Ranga Shankara's 'View from the 4th Row' brings to audiences Kali Billi Productions' 'Sangeet Bari'!

Lavani has been a part of Maharashtra’s cultural milieu for several centuries, breaking the fourth wall and entertaining, engaging, and interacting with the audience. 'Sangeet Bari' exposes audiences to this rich art form, while creating a platform for the Lavani woman to tell us her story. Performed by some of the foremost exponents of Lavani, 'Sangeet Bari' combines multiple narratives and brings to the fore the plight of traditional Lavani artistes, many of whom are either unknown or forgotten. It attempts to portray them as artistes and human beings, breaking the popular image of 'seductress' or 'victim' that is associated with them.

Written by Bhushan Korgaonkar and directed by Savitri Medhatul, 'Sangeet Bari' features artistes Pushpa Satarkar, Akanksha Kadam, Latabai Waikar, Chandrakant Lakhe, Vinayak Jawale, Sumit Kudalkar, Savitri, Bhushan, and Sangeet Natak Academy Award winner Shakuntalabai Nagarkar.
