Award-winning U.S. poet, critic, and translator Annie Finch will perform poems from her first book to appear in India, Earth Days: Poems, Chants, and Spells (Nirala Press).  Known for her incantatory poetry and mesmerizing performances, Finch is one of the foremost contemporary practitioners of poetic meter in English. After the reading, Finch will share with attendees her thoughts about poetics from the perspective of her work as a writer, translator, critic, editor, teacher, and performer.  Discussion will touch on such issues as the gifts that meter, rhyme, and other formal patterns offer to contemporary poets and readers; form in poetic translation; meter and feminism; and the ritual work of poetic meter in an age of environmental and social catastrophe.
