As part of Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts presents "BODY MATTERS: Move to Transform", a month-long Arts in Education Festival supported by the Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka.
About the Performance:
The show Electric Bodies was created during a 7-day collaborative artistic residency ( Feb. 3-9,2023) held at Attakkalari Centre For Movement Arts led by Roberta Racis and Fabio Novembrini. The two choreographers collaborated with a select group of dancers (Hembharathy Palani, Pooja Gajanan Kadam, Shivaranjan NS, Dayanand Akhilesh J and Sumesh V.M.) In Electric Bodies, choreography is intertwined with musical construction. The danced material is articulated in a series of choreographic sections that are inspired by the Italian version of the Mine collective and explore with the Attakkalari dancers the relationship between music and dance, alternately considered as entities that dialogue with each other in a dependent, interdependent or independent manner. In this version, the work makes use of a selection of the original music tracks created by the students of the Martini Conservatory of Bologna, on which choreographers Fabio Novembrini and Roberta Racis worked with the contribution of sound design by musician Samuele Cestola. The composition creates rhythmic patterns in which sound atmospheres are inextricably linked to the interpretation of movements and the dancers' expressiveness. The study of rhythm explores in a non-narrative way the relationship between the concrete form of movement and its expressive qualities. In terms of dramaturgy, the work was nurtured by the relationship between the version of Electric Bodies originally created by the Mine collective and the peculiar inspiration given by the Attakkalari group of dancers.
“Corpi Elettrici” is a choreographic project developed by MINE Collective: Francesco Saverio Cavaliere, Siro Guglielmi, Fabio Novembrini, Roberta Racis, Silvia Sisto. The work was conceived as a special project by Gender Bender and the G.B. Martini in Bologna. It was developed during the lockdown and brought together the 5 dancemakers of MINE Collective and 20 students studying Electronic Music and Applied Music. From various online meetings, 20 short video works were created, each of which is the result of a deep and poetic dialogue between a dance maker and a student of the Conservatory. The 20 videos were further developed into a new creation for the stage. “Corpi Elettrici” is the transposition of this synergistic path, a collective reflection on the isolation of the pandemic, and a reflection of the electro-magnetism and synchronisation between bodies.
