Event Description
Music of the Charkha is a creative expression, in the idiom and grammar of Hindustani classical music, of Rama’s personal journey over the last several years to deeply explore Gandhiji’s 11 Vows as observances of a spiritually grounded life in the immortal words of our saints, rishis and philosophers such as Tulsidas, Basavanna, and with verses from the Mundaka Upanishad, Kabir Das and Baba Bulleh Shah. The music draws on two of our richest traditions of classical music and philosophy, weaving a colourful tapestry of many ragas, laya, bhasha and chhand to convey the universal and timeless truths expressed in these 11 vows as cardinal values of life for the attainment of a state of Swaraj. In this performance, Rama will explore Satya, Sarvadharma Samanatva and Swadeshi, a symbol of self-reliance and meditation.
