Event Description

India’s musical and linguistic plurality is best manifested in the poetic compositions of Meerabai, Purandaradasa, Thyagaraja, Tulsidas, Tukaram, Dilip Kumar Roy and Surdas. Vocalists S. Aishwariya and S. Saundarya, with their voices and songs, journey through the musical terrains with renderings of theses varied composers. They are amongst the most popular musicians in Carnatic music from the younger generation. Both of them are the Great Grand Daughters of Bharat Ratna M.S. Subbulakshmi and the Grand Daughters of Dr. Radha Viswanathan. Indeed, they are the torch bearers of a precious legacy. They follow the musical footsteps of musician extraordinaire, M.S. Subbulakshmi, an artist who with her distinctive identity, illuminated the landscape of Classical music. She left a legacy (from the 1930s) of an artistic repertoire that has deep resonances even today. This concert is an ode to the virtuosity of a classical artist and the multi-hued composers who embellished their provenance.
