This is a “unique” film that revisits the golden era of Radio. This was an era before advent of Television, mobile phones and social media in our daily life. The film explores how Radio deeply influenced the lives of a few passionate individuals. Film takes you to the vintage radio museum of passionate radio restorer from Bengaluru, historic Apollo 11 Moon landing commentary from Voice of America (Tamil Service) of 1969, role of Ham Radio in disasters like Tsunami, story of how childhood curiosity of radio turned to become popular radio announcer, fond memories associated with most popular radio programs like Binaca Geetmala, Cricket commentary, tireless efforts of retired librarian to repair his old radio, etc. Film also highlights School radio where students are taking forward the magic of radio in the new form.

Film has received awards, nominations at over 80 film festivals in 36 countries where it was screened. Film is also listed by UNESCO as part of World Radio Day celebrations and has also been featured in discussion programs on AIR Pune, AIR Rajkot and Vividh Bharati service.

The screening will be followed by a talk and a Q&A session with the audience.

Speakers

Makarand Waikar
Concept, Producer & Co-Director
Makarand Waikar is an engineer by profession and as a hobby and in spare time, he developed an interest in documentary filmmaking and attended courses and film discussions at FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) and NFAI (National Film Archive of India) in Pune.

After studying many subjects of documentaries, he decided to focus on making films to capture the essence of lives, moments, traditions and practices from recent past and preserve them for generations to come.  His first documentary, My RADIO My LIFE, which explores the golden era of radio – an era before the advent of television, mobile phones, and social media in our daily lives.


Simantinee Bhagwat
Research & Creative Producer
Simantinee, has interest in documentary making and attended few courses at FTII, Pune. She came on board as a creative producer for documentary My Radio My Life. She focused on idea creation and production of the project once concept was finalised.

As a creative producer, she also spent two years in the research to explore various aspects of radio of golden era and contacted several passionate persons who had interesting stories about radio in their life.
