Event Description

Celebrating the women of Thumri, Dadra, Ghazal and other Hindustani semi classical forms, O Gaanewali is an intimate mehfil, baithak style! The audience is taken along a musical journey with some interesting facts, stories and anecdotes about the songstresses of yesteryear.
 
The performance includes thumri, dadra, hori, chaiti, ghazal and so on- forms made popular by the tawaifs and so many women performers after them. The show is performed by young classical musicians, all receiving *taaleem *from respected gurus in their fields, focusing largely on the musicality of these evolving forms.
 
This show has been performed at NCPA, Prithvi theatre, NMACC in Mumbai and in Pune, Delhi, Rajkot, Bangalore to name a few.
 
About the Artists
 
Avanti Patel is a versatile Artiste based out of Mumbai. A Hindustani classical vocalist, playback singer, composer and innovator, she is currently the disciple of Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande of the Jaipur Atrauli Gharana.
 
Rutuja Lad was initiated into music at the age of 5 and received primary musical guidance from Guruvarya Bhalchandra Paatre.
From the past 11 years she was undergoing training from Gaanayogini Pandita Dhondutai Kulkarni from the Jaipur Atrauli Gharana.
