About the workshop
We all love green surroundings, including our living spaces. A basic understanding of zero garbage homes, home composting practices, safe greywater practices and urban foodscapes helps practice a green lifestyle, both as an individual and as a community. This workshop on Home Gardening shall provide basic and simple tips to start gardening or to take existing gardens a notch higher, focussing specifically on the concept of Edible Gardens.
The workshop shall use pictures and method demonstrations. The presentation will be shared with the participants for further references.
About Garden City Farmers
Garden City Farmers is an NGO based in Bengaluru, which is the brainchild of Dr Vishwanath, an entomologist. It stands by “Grow what you eat, and eat what you grow.” Although the NGO officially began in 2011, he introduced Bengaluru to the concept in 1995. It was during Bengaluru’s metamorphosis in the 1970s that Dr Vishwanath also learnt about organic farming. As an entomologist with newly acquired knowledge on the benefits of growing one’s own food, he knew it was time to implement what he had learnt. He thought if people began growing on their terrace, then collectively over the years they could help temperatures dip again to close to normal levels. In 2011, Garden City Farmers was formed. Till then Dr Vishwanath was single-handedly managing workshops, but he was joined by Trustees Dr Rajendra Hegde and Anil Nadig. Every month the group organises workshops on how to grow one’s own food at home – from herbs to fruits and vegetables.
