Event Description

Kathak, is the North Indian style of classical dance that roots in the ever changing geography of space, time and movement ever since its inception. From the parampara of kirtans, chauraha performances, mehfils to the proscenium stage- kathak has evolved in storytelling through time!

 

Parichay is a two-part performance that takes you through the traditional presentation of the form, to the art-making tradition/adaption of the form, showcasing the evolution of the form by the Kathakaar!

 

Parichay is an exploration to express the journey of the artist through kathak !

 

About the artist

Nikhil Ravi Parmar, a Disciple of Guru Shama Bhate & Guru Dr Maya Rao, Ms Madhu Natraj , is a multi-disciplinary visionary, who has spent over a decade in performing arts, research, education, teaching pedagogy and curation. His enquiries lie at the nexus of tradition walking down the path of modernity. Through his performances, curation, and writings he is deeply rooted in telling stories that are relevant to ideas of culture & identity, socio-political matters co-relating strong ties of tradition influenced by contemporary times.
