Event Description

To mark 75 years of the Partition, singer and composer Sonam Kalra presents a critically acclaimed experiential performance using music, theatre, video and design that delves into the cataclysmic events and emotions of the Partition of 1947. The performance brings to life the poetry and texts of that time, along with oral histories and testimonials of the survivors of Partition. This performance is an attempt to preserve and honour the stories we all may have heard from our grandparents and to serve as lessons for generations to come. In revisiting these stories, Sonam Kalra hopes that the audience will be able to ponder, empathise and realise a way forward. Hopefully, this will be a way of peace and co-existence based on a shared grief, a shared loss, a shared history and a shared love. Sonam Kalra will be joined on stage by Salima Raza, Indian theatre actor, as well as an ensemble of musicians. Sonam has also collaborated with visual artist Gopika Chowfla who brings to life the pain of the Partition through an art installation and graphics. In collaboration with VIDYA
