Event Description
Pehchaan is a collection of pieces in Bharatanatyam; curated to chronicle the bridge between the identity of the ‘dancer’ and the artist. According to the Natya Shastra, one of the oldest texts on the performing arts, ‘performers are painted to lose their previous individuality and become the character they are playing.’ In the context of classical dance, the process of getting ready distances the person from the character of the ‘dancer’.
How can we bridge this gap, using the language of dance to give voice to our own individuality, contextualised in the present? This is the question that Pehchaan seeks to address.
