PERFORMING SOLOS
A workshop for solo plays or monologue performance
During a theatre play, a particular scene generally has two or more characters having a dialogue exchange. However, there might be moments where an actor finds him/herself feeling the burden of carrying that particular scene alone. While there are dialogues, there can also be monologues or asides in a play.
A monologue is not merely a moment of glory or limelight for the actor, but also a very responsible task. Most of the times if a monologue are a part of a bigger play; it serves as the concept carrier. Hence it becomes extremely important that the particular monologue is treated sensitively so as to convey the idea in the best way possible. Performing a monologue as a separate/individual piece and not part of a bigger play has different set of challenges in terms of engagement, conveying, stage utilization and time etc. Carrying a monologue can become tricky, if not handled carefully.
What are the various elements that make a good monologue performance?
What are the various risks involved in giving a performance solo?
What are the pros and cons of not having a dialogue?
How to create an engaging monologue performance without losing the character?
How to identify a good monologue?
We shall answer these and some more questions through this 6 hours long monologue workshop called “Performing Solos”.
Participants are requested to carry a small monologue along that they would like to prepare.
