Event Description

Photography workshop by 10-year-old award winner Vihaan Talya! Vihaan Talya, winner of 'Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year - under 10 years' from the prestigious Natural History Museum, London, will lead a rare workshop on unseen wildlife through his lens! Vihaan will present his approach and showcase some images. Later he will lead participants on a short tour of the orchards that Ragi Kana is set in, for some practicals! Both children and adults can participate in this workshop. Bring your curiosity and cameras (any camera is fine). About Vihaan: Ten-year-old Vihaan started photography three years ago. He likes to use both macro and telephoto lenses in his work. Vihaan enjoys going on safari as well as capturing images of spiders and insects at the nearby parks in Bengaluru. Alongside photography, he’s also interested in studying astronomy. The winning image (attached) and the judge's comments: Visiting an ancient tamarind grove just kilometres from Bangalore Airport in India, Vihaan was struck by how an ornamental tree trunk spider seemed to have been entranced by the sound of Krishna’s flute. This species - a type of orb weaver spider - creates a wheel-shaped web of sticky threads to catch flying insects. As the spider grows, it elongates its web, which entangles anything that lands on it. The patterns on the spider’s back have been known to attract prey while its bright orange belly is thought to startle potential predators. Dhritiman Mukherjee, Wildlife and Conservation Photographer and Competition Judge, commented that ‘this image conveys so many interesting things to me. What I like most is the thought process behind it and the composition of the image. It talks about coexistence very nicely. The inclusion of a historic sculpture adds a different dimension to the concept. Then here we are, seeing a spider - a smaller and less attended life form. So, for me, this one served the purpose of art, concept, conservation, and science very nicely.’ Few of Vihaan's images can be seen at https://www.instagram.com/vihaan_talya_photography/ The official link of Natural history museum https://www.nhm.ac.uk/wpy/gallery/2023-the-wall-of-wonder Register to workshop on https://forms.gle/va4tCUBu2SH2bdbu6 Address: Sri Ramakrishna Samagra Shikshana Kendra School Campus, Off Bannerghatta Road, near Decathlon sports shop, Gottigere, Bengaluru – 83 Contact: +91 9972676426
