Event Description

The Margam begins with an Anjali, a homage to Shree Rama through music, infused with deep devotion. The Pushpanjali — “Anlali Logo Mor Sangite” in Bengali, composed by the great Muslim poet Kazi Nazrul Islam — beautifully expresses the offering of music as a prayer. The lyrics say: “Oh Lord, accept my offering, my Anjali, through my music. My heart is vibrating like the flame of a lamp, offering you the lotus of devotion, blooming within me, spreading fragrance, beauty, and emotions. Accept this lotus at your lotus feet. Ultimately, when I gaze upon your face, my speech, my ego fall away like shedding flowers.” The piece is set to Raag Tilang and Taal Chatushra Ekam, capturing the essence of reverence.

As the presentation progresses, the central piece is the Varnam, composed by the renowned composer Shri Sitharama Sharma, which further enriches the performance. This Telugu Varnam, set to Raag Todi and Taal Aadi, beautifully encapsulates various episodes from the Ramayana, depicting the significant characters and moments — from Sabari and Kaikeyi to Dasharatha, Ravana, Vishwamitra Muni, and Taraka. The Varnam, titled “Shri Rama Chandra,” adds depth and color to the narrative, showcasing the richness of the classical tradition and the timeless devotion to Lord Rama.

The Varnam is followed by Surdas Bhajan- Jay Narayana Brahma Parayana Sripati Kamala Kantam.
