'RS Connect' brings to you, Prithvi Chandavarkar, an educationalist, currently employed at Mallya Aditi International School. He is an avid reader and enjoys music and theatre.

This Saturday the 13th of November from 5.15 PM to 6.15 PM he will be reading and discussing A K Ramanujan's essay, "Who Needs Folklore?" The essay talks about how orally transmitted folktales form the bedrock of what has come to be called canonised literature.

It also details how different languages apart from Sanskrit hold a wealth of stories in themselves, and travel through regional dialects and languages. All in all, the session will be an appreciation of all that is often otherwise relegated to chats with grandparents, bedtime stories and tales from wayside chai shops.

A. K Ramanujan reminds us of the importance of multiple narratives and interpretations, and how some of them are conveniently subsumed, and many more are left forgotten.
