Event Description

The event featuring Carnatic vocalist Sandeep Narayan will give expression to timeless ragas, rich vocals, and captivating rhythm in a performance that bridges deep-rooted tradition and innovative expression. With over 170 artists featured in previous editions, Sangamam continues to spotlight India’s profound artistic legacy through curated musical evenings.

This event is a journey into the heart of Carnatic music and a tribute to our shared cultural spirit by Sandeep Narayan. While born and raised in Los Angeles, Sandeep journeyed to India in 2006 to master Carnatic and while his work is rooted in classical tradition, it is also open to experimentation. His compositions feature traditional instruments like the mridangam and bansuri, and his ensemble will use instruments like acoustic and bass guitar, electric violin, mridangam, and thavil. Sandeep received introduction to fusion music more than 15 years ago when he began listening to bands such as Shakti, which featured artistes John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, Vikku Vinayakram, L Shankar and more. Later, he began to focus sharply on Carnatic and his original compositions include a thillana in the Bageshri raga, and ‘Neelambari’, a collaboration with musical group Sounds of Isha. Sandeep’s ensemble involves creative improvisations of works by composers like Adi Sankara, Purandaradasa, Gopalakrishna Bharathi, Thyagaraja, Papanasam Sivan, Akka Mahadevi and Thirunavukkarasar. These compositions span a rang of 50 to 400 years.  Narayan has performed globally, from the US to Europe, the Middle East and beyond.
