What does Music Look Like? RaagRang explores this question in the context of North Indian classical music. In a great concert, as the raga unfolds, the binaries disappear- the musician becomes the raga and the raga the artist. Ultimately, only the music remains. Dipankar attempts to semantically express this musical process. A few raga renditions have been chosen that have touched him deeply. RaagRang visualizes one raga from each artist’s diverse oeuvre. Dipankar has created a series of traditional paintings that focus on the musician and the music emanating from them. The pieces present an intimate view of the music and the musicians, enhanced by colors and calligraphic notations that reflect the mood of the music, allowing the audience to absorb the essence of the raga and its relationship with the artist.
