Event Description

The evening unfolds as a journey between two emotional worlds: one introspective, the other unrestrained.

Sitarist Snehesh Nag, known for his soulful precision and fluid expressiveness, is joined by Shrivatsa Koulgi on tabla for a performance that explores the duality of Hindustani raga music. The “serious” raga invites quiet reflection, bound by structure and emotional gravity, while the “light” raga celebrates freedom by weaving playful turns, folk colours, and spontaneous joy.

Together, they create a conversation between depth and delight, discipline and abandon; a meeting point of heart and art.

Snehesh Nag
Sitar
Snehesh Nag is a sitarist, composer, and educator whose music bridges Hindustani classical traditions with contemporary cross-genre exploration. Trained under his father, Pt. Sugato Nag, and sarod maestro Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta, he embodies the Senia Shahjahanpur and Enayatkhani gharanas, balancing gayaki baaj and tantrakari. A recipient of the Acharya Allauddin Khan Memorial Award, he has performed globally and collaborated with artists such as Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, the Princeton Symphony, and Grammy-winners Cathy Fink and Christylez Bacon. Snehesh holds a Master’s in Music Technology from Georgia Tech and was Artist-in-Residence at Strathmore (2023–24).

Shrivatsa Koulgi

Shrivatsa Koulgi, a tabla virtuoso from a musical family, began training at six under Pt. Veeranna Kaamkar and Pt. Maruti V. Kurdekar, and continues under Pt. Ravindra Yavagal. Founder of Rhythm and Beyond…, his tabla school reaches students across India and abroad. An “A” grade AIR artist and recipient of the Pt. Nikhil Ghosh Memorial Award (NCPA), he is acclaimed for exploring complex taals and composing within Sankeerna Jati. His albums Vindhya: Epitome of Rhythm and Eka Vimshati blend Hindustani, Carnatic, and jazz influences. Shrivatsa has performed with maestros including Dr. N. Rajam and Pt. Jayateerth Mevundi.
