Event Description

Ragi Kana will host a special edition of its weekly Santhe, "Raitha Santhe" (Farmers' Market), on Sunday, November 24, 2024, as part of the Kannada Rajyothsava week celebrations. The event will highlight Karnataka's agricultural heritage and feature a range of cultural programs.

Farmers participating in the Santhe include:

• Padma from T. Hosahalli, awarded Best Woman Farmer of Kanakapura Taluk at Krishi Mela, showcasing produce such as papaya, palak, beans, and Yalakki banana.
• Lakshmi Narayana, a chemical-free farmer for 15 years and Director of Kanakapura Organic Producer Company, presenting traditional varieties of paddy and ragi.
• Suprith Gowda from Thamasamdra, offering Burma Black rice grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides.
• Srinivas, specializing in banana-based products, including banana stem pickle, thokku, chutney powder, papad, and sandige.
• Akshayakalpa, presenting fresh vegetables from their Tiptur farm with two participating farmers.
• ICRA, representing 12,000 small farmers from North Karnataka, providing organic groceries grown with traditional methods.

Programs scheduled for the event:

1. A live cooking session by chef and actor Sihi Kahi Chandru, featuring the preparation of "girmit," a Karnataka specialty.
2. A conversation between bilingual scholar Vanamala Vishwanatha and poet Prathibha Nandkumar, discussing Kuvempu’s novel Malegalalli Madumagalu.
3. A talk by Dr. Nisha Chetana Shetty on ADHD, offering insights into the condition.

Visitors can also explore Ragi Kana’s regular offerings, including handloom fabrics, handmade crafts, and organic products.

The event aims to celebrate Karnataka’s agricultural traditions while fostering community engagement through cultural and culinary experiences.
