Event Description

Ranga Shankara AHA's signature Summer Express 2021 is being held from 12th Apr to 9 May. Summer workshops around the theme of theatre will be conducted for children aged 8 to 12 years. The faculty members have been chosen from across the country. Two weeks of elaborate workshops will culminate in a presentation to the parents and press on the Ranga Shankara stage. All the COVID-19 related precautions will be taken during the workshops.

This year, the facilitators will be renowned theatre practitioners S Surendranath, Sujay Saple, Shravana Heggodu, Anuja Ghosalkar, Pallavi Chander, and Shaili Sathyu. The workshops are a part of Ranga Shankara's AHA! programme, among the country's best full-fledged and sustained Theatre for Children programmes.

The workshop will be conducted in two batches. The first batch will take place between 12th and 25th Apr 2021. The second batch will take place between 26th Apr and 9th  May 2021 and each batch is a complete course in itself. Workshops start at 10 AM and end at 4 PM and will be conducted every day except Sundays. The performance by the children will be on 25th Apr and 9th May for the two batches.

Centred on the themes of experiencing and making theatre, the workshops include learning the art of storytelling, acting, puppetry, etc. In a special this year, there is a workshop on street theatre, which teaches children the art of quickly putting up a show. "Summer Express is an intensive and thoughtfully laid-out theatre workshop series specially designed for children. We ensure that we only take in limited participants so that our facilitators can pay attention to each student. Especially now, in the time of 'screen fatigue' and the absence of physical schools, there is a need for children to engage with their peers sans the digital. Learning together and having fun together is more important now than ever before. All COVID-19 guidelines will be strictly enforced and the safety and health of our participants, facilitators, and volunteers prioritized", says Arundhati Nag.
