The performance is a part of Ranga Shankara's 'Return to Theatre' campaign and is supported by the Goethe-Institut/ Max Mueller Bhavan.
The Trust will present Kavi Devidas's 'Bhisma Parva'. The presentation will follow the Badagutittu style, prevalent in areas ranging from Udupi to Karwar in Northern Karnataka. The performance is directed by renowned senior Maddale practitioner A P Phatak, who is also the Founder-Director of the Phatak Yaksha Samskriti Trust. Highly learned and experienced in 'Bhagavata', A P Phatak is renowned for the blend of classicism and innovation in his narrative style.
The performance also features veteran practitioners Kolagi Keshava Hegde (Bhagavataru), Prasanna Heggaru (Chende Vadakaru), and singers Shashanka Arnady, V Sankadagundy Ganapathi Bhat, V Umakanth Bhat, Ujira Ashoka Bhat, and Vasudeva Ranga Bhatta. A P Phatak and Kolagi Keshava Hegde also form the Himmela.
'Tala Maddale' is a derived form of Yakshagana. It is one of South India's most ancient and popular forms of storytelling and impromptu debate performance. This rich oral tradition draws its content from mythology, especially stories from the 'Mahabharata' written specifically for the artform. Performers make use of humour, philosophy, puns, and sarcasm in the dialogues, resulting in an extremely engaging, non-scripted performance.
The performance is for audiences 8 years and above.
