Event Description

Music has the power to move people. It is therapy. There is even documented research into the use of music as a therapeutic form to tackle neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

This Saturday, RS Connect in collaboration with Indian Music Experience, presents Shailaja Srinath, a Carnatic singer and wellness researcher, who will perform some carnatic ragas and compositions used in music therapy, and share how they help align one with oneself.

Shailaja Srinath is a trained Carnatic vocalist and veena player. A graduate engineer in architecture and a master’s in interior design (Architecture), she also has 25+ years’ experience in both the practical construction area and teaching as well.

A disciple of Smt Malathi Narasimhamurthy and Nagamani Srinath (vocal), and Vidwan Shankaranarayan & Kalaimani Dr. Suma Sudheendra (Veena), Shailaja has performed at numerous venues and festivals including Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Rabindra Kalakshetra  and the Mysore Palace as a part of the Dussehra Festival.

About Ranga Shankara

Ranga Shankara is the definitive space for quality theatre in Bangalore.  Since it opened its doors in October 2004, Ranga Shankara has developed into one of the nerve centres of theatre in India, firmly believing in ‘a play a day’, resulting in over 7000 performances by local, national and international troupes in a range of languages in Ranga Shankara’s 18 years. One of the most affordable, accessible theatres in the country (making it a favourite among amateur theatre troupes), Ranga Shankara is also known for its many festivals such as the annual Theatre Festival, AHA! Festival of Theatre for Children and Equal, all contributing to the richness of cultural fabric of not just Bangalore, but India, too.
