The play is set during the reign of Muhammad Bin Tughlaq, 14th century Turko-Indian ruler, the play is both a historical play as well as a commentary on the contemporary politics. Tughlaq is a play about a ruler with extreme passion, idealism, and big dreams. His virtues become his vices which spirals him down to his tragedy.
