36/2, 8th Cross Rd, R K Colony, 2nd Phase, J. P. Nagar 560078
After performing to full houses last April at Ranga Shankara, Chetan Datar's critically acclaimed '1, Madhav Baug' goes online in Ranga Shankara's 'Staged@RS' programme! This will be the sixth play under Ranga Shankara's 'Staged@RS' digital streaming programme, supported by the Infosys Foundation.
'1, Madhav Baug' features veteran actor Revathy in a riveting solo piece. The play is translated by Shanta Gokhale and is directed by Mariam Jetpurwala. '1, Madhav Baug' tells the story of a mother coming to terms with her college-going son's sexuality. The play presents the conflicts faced by members of the LGBTQIA community and the journey to finally accepting oneself for being different, but not deviant.
'1, Madhav Baug' was a pioneering play, written on homosexuality and the acceptance of the LGBTQIA community, and is among the most widely-acclaimed plays in Indian theatre. This version of the play was created as the first offering, in Ranga Shankara's 'Other Voices' programme, in 2007, featuring plays for an intimate audience. This piece also marked Revathy's theatre debut.
The performance is for audiences 18 years and above. '1, Madhav Baug' will premiere on Fri, 21 May 2021 on www.insider.in. It will be available for viewing till 11:59 PM IST on Sun, 30 May 2021. The show will be available to national and international audiences.
As an added attraction, a recorded interview featuring Arundhati Nag and Gayathri Krishna in conversation with director Mariam Jetpurwala, translator Shanta Gokhale, and actor Revathy will be available from Tue, 25 May 2021, onwards, along with the play, on Insider.
