Event Description

The Reader’s Bloc is an online/IRL group of readers taking part in reading, listening and sharing exercises around texts that help us learn more about ourselves, the identities we share and the communities we live in. In this session of Reader’s Bloc, we think about cities, real and imagined, to explore the relationship between memory, place and desire. We will be reading select pages from Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities and the essay New York City and the Staging of Disaster that looks at how in Calvino’s novel the city is pictured as if it were the infrastructure of an idea. On registration we will send you the text, the topics/themes we could discuss and other details. Registrations are on a first come first serve basis. Ages 18-25. This session is conducted as part of the Museum of Art and Photography (MAP)’s engagements for the MAP OSCH Collective. The MAP OSCH Collective is a community for young people (18-25 year old’s) to engage with the arts and culture sector. The collective is for, of and by young people — to explore our shared identities and interests through art.
