Akira Kurosawa's Roshomon was originally inspired by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa short story "In a Groove". The film story was later written as a play in Hindi by Raghuvir Sahai. The Hindi script was later translated to Kannada by S.Malathi.
The classic revolves around 2 main incidents, a lady is assaulted and her husband is murdered.
A full fledged investigation of the murder takes place. All the people involved in the murder, including the husband's spirit, are interrogated. They all tell their own versions of the same incident. This elaborate experience of perceptions and interrogations, leads to several questions of reality, humanity, and morality. It also explores the different shades of humanity in a situation as such. In this interrogation of humanity and morality, the law strives for justice of the Murder only.
The release of Roshomon post 2nd world war was considered a social comment. This Classic has maintained it's relevancy in the present day. Revisiting this classic has helped us interpret the story to the current social condition.
While there is only one ultimate truth, there are numerous different ways or paths to reach it. Three common people are also discussing about this event, they then find a small baby. This baby reignites the faith and hope in Humanity. Although there are a few unanswered questions, they get along with the reality and their lives.
