Ruuh-Bakhsh is formed by Tajdar Junaid, Satyaki Banerjee and Rabi Mondal in an effort to play and conserve folk music from Bengal. For BLR Hubba, the ensemble presents a specially commissioned performance featuring Slovenian accordionist Matija Solce.
About Tajdar Junaid
Tajdar Junaid is a Mumbai-based Film Composer and Music Producer with roots in Calcutta, whose collaborations span world cinema, from Mohsen Makhmalbaf and Coke Studio Bharat to the Spanish animated feature Sultana’s Dream. The films that he has composed for have received many prestigious nominations and awards, including an Oscar nomination (Writing with Fire, 2022), a Goya nomination (Sultana’s Dream, 2024), and a National Film Award (Mukti Bhawan, 2017).
About Satyaki Banerjee
Satyaki Banerjee is an eclectic musician with a natural affinity for plucked instruments, from sarod, dotara, oud and rabab to his magnificent singing of Bengali mystical poetry in the baul and kirtan traditions — where folk and classical elements meld into a unique style of playing. He works independently and with leading artistes and theatre groups, has performed at major international festivals including the Rainforest World Music Festival and House of World Cultures, and serves as organising secretary of Kolkata’s Baul Fakir Utsav.
About Rabi Mondal
Rabi Mondal is a folk musician from Shantiniketan, groomed in the Baul tradition and known for performing with acclaimed artists such as Moushumi Bhowmik and Pt. Tanmoy Bose, as well as appearing on the prestigious Coke Studio series. He sings and performs with the dotara, khamak, dupki and other folk percussion instruments, while tending to his village ashram and spending his time farming, doing carpentry and crafting musical instruments.
About Matija Solce
Matija Solce, the first Slovenian doctor of puppetry, is an actor, musician, director and festival organiser whose boot-and-accordion performances dissolve boundaries between music and theatre, turning concerts into interactive theatre and puppet shows into musical compositions. With his Floating Castle Festival and Etno Histeria Orchestra connecting thousands of artists, he travels the globe with his accordion and coffin full of bones, championing puppet theatre as the most open form and pushing art outside its comfort zone.
