Arangetram of Kumari. Sahana Kaushik, Daughter & Disciple of Guru Smt. Poornima Sankar Kaushik, Surya School of Performing Arts, is being presented on Sunday, the 25th of May 2025, 4.25 pm at ADA Rangamandira, JC Road, Bengaluru, in the distinguished presence of Kalaimamani Guru Smt. Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala, Artistic Director, Kalapradarshini, Chennai, and Nrithya Saraswathi Guru Smt. Shubha Dhananjay, Chairperson, Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy, Govt. of Karnataka.

 

Sahana Kaushik is a student of Commerce at National Public School, Indiranagar, and will graduate in 2026. She has been learning Bharatanatyam under the guidance of her mother and Guru, Smt. Poornima Sankar Kaushik of Surya School of Performing Arts from the age of four. Since her Salangai Poojai in 2021, she has had the privilege of performing solo at several prestigious events in Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Chennai, and as part of the school's ensemble. She has also been active in the dance societies of her school. Sahana has been learning Carnatic music from Guru Smt. Sumitra Nitin for over a decade. She has performed at several stages and has been awarded the CCRT Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Sahana is very passionate about dance and music and is keen on performing more and developing her artistic skills holistically. Apart from dance, she is currently preparing to study law and is an avid reader, music lover, and can most often be found walking and training her dog Cosmo.

About Guru Smt. Poornima Sankar Kaushik

Poornima Sankar Kaushik, a multifaceted artist, encompassing performance, choreography, and entrepreneurship. A dedicated disciple of the renowned Guru Kalaimamani Smt. K.J. Sarasa of Sarasalaya, Chennai, she carries forward the esteemed lineage of the Vazhuvoor Bani of Bharatanatyam. Poornima's journey began with her Arangetram at the age of ten, graced by the presence of the legendary Smt. M.L. Vasanthakumari. A graded artiste of Doordarshan Kendra, she boasts an impressive repertoire of over 400 performances across prestigious national and international stages. Her proficiency extends to Carnatic music, enriching her artistic expression. As the founder of Surya School of Performing Arts, Poornima imparts her passion to aspiring dancers, and her acclaimed production series, “Dancing Tales", and storytelling workshops have graced numerous festivals. An executive member of the International Dance Alliance, Bangalore Chapter, and Associate Artistic Director of Padmalaya Dance Foundation, she currently trains under her mother-in-law Guru Smt. Padma Murali, with whom she frequently works on productions. Poornima's contributions have been recognized with prestigious titles including 'Bharatha Ratna' from the Ministry of Culture, Sri Lanka, 'Natya Tharakai', 'Swayam Prakasha Narthaki' and 'Narthana Shironmani'. Beyond her artistic pursuits, she champions accessible eye care for children with autism through her non-profit venture, Surya for Life.
